You can give a user access to catalog automatically after registration. In this method, you don’t have to convert the user.

Select “Templates” from the left side Menu and select “User Registration Form” from “Template Setting”

In “User Registration Settings” section, tick the check box of “Automatically add request as a Catalog User for your catalog?” to give access to the catalog

Choose the user group and click on "Save" button to save the changes
